        is devoted to 90th anniversary of remembrance of artist Dzidra Ezergaile. This exhibition includes both works by Dzidra Ezergaile and creative works by students of Alūksne Art School inspired by the original works of excellent graphics artist.
DZIDRA EZERGAILE (1926/04/11-2013/07/06) has graduated department of Graphics in Latvian Academy of Art in 1956. She has participated in exhibitions since 1956. She had many one-person exhibitions in Riga and other cities of Latvia. She has also she participated in the exhibitions of graphical art together with other renowned Latvian artists outside of Latvia. She is member of Association of Artists since 1962. She has worked as artistic editor of the magazine „Padomju Latvijas Sieviete” (The Woman of Soviet Latvia). Her summer seasons and retirement period was spent together with her spouse writer Vidars Balts mainly in „Sniedzes” in Alsviķi parish at Tūja located in Alūksne area. The artist has actively participated in social life of Alūksne region and had several one-person exhibitions. About 500 pieces of artist's works — graphics, bookmarks, graphics works made from plates of zinc and copper — and the portrait of the artist painted by Milda Bīrīte are included in the Art Collection of Alūksne Museum. The last resting place of the artist is in Alūksne Large graveyard.

       The exhibition is opened in the exhibition hall of Alūksne Art School in Ojāra Vācieša street 2, Alūksne, from April 18 to May 25 this year.

          From February 16th to March 16th the exhibition "Portraits and things" of works by pupils of grade 7 of Alūksne Art School, can be seen in Balvi Art School.

            On February 26th, Kristaps Zariņš, the prorector and professor of the Art Academy of Latvia, and Linda Bērziņa and Elīna Vītola, the students of the Art Academy of Latvia, visited Alūksne Art School. They met with school’s pupils, teachers and parent’s representatives to talk about art education and the process of creating works of art in the context of the exhibition "The East is too far in the West." Thanks to artists for interesting stories, nice meeting moments and the opportunity to enjoy their creative achievements in the exhibition hall of the school.

             During all February and by the 5th of March you can visit the exhibition “Pārāk tālu rietumos ir austrumi” (East is too far in West) of works by students of the Art Academy of Latvia in Alūksne Art School. Viewer who wants to see high professional masterpiece of art in its classical meaning may be disappointed because this time it is not focused to visual and aesthetic value, but on the value of concept - idea that certainly fits young and creative people. There are works by Anna Pommere, Marta Veinberga, Rihards Ābeltiņš, Linda Bērziņa, Elīna Vītola, Zīle Ziemele, Anna Egle and Anna Ceipe presented in this exhibition.

            On January 12, 2016, at 16:00 personal exhibition by artist Elita Patmalniece was opened in the Alūksne Museum. After this event the artist with her colleagues took opportunity to visit representatives from related field in Alūksne Art School. Those moments spent together were really unforgettable moments for students with writing of autographs, taking selphies and getting into common picture.
A little about artist Elita Patmalniece
Fashion artist and painter Elita Patmalniece was born in July 23, 1964, in Ogre. She has studied in the fashion department of the Art Academy of Latvia fashion department and acquired her Bachelor's degree in 1998, later continued her studies in the painting workshop of A. Naumovs and K. Zariņš (in the Art Academy of Latvia). She acquired her Master degree in painting subfield. Since 1992 the artist was creating garments. Attention of critics from the fashion field was gained by her collection of garments in the show “Nepieradinātās modes asambleja” (Wild fashion assembly) in 90-ties. Since 1989 when Elita Patmalniece was awarded by the 1st prize in the Soviet Union Contest of Young Fashion Artists in Tallinn other important awards followed such as the 1st prize in artists contest in Vilnius, prize for non-traditional solution of the work in the exhibition “Miniatūras” (Miniatures) (2005) and others.
Elita Patmalniece: “First: I am human. First you should be human. Once I was asked: “Who are you?” I told: ”How –who? Human!” My friend said: “Say – artist!” Me again: “Why artist - normal human!” What I am for artist? There are real artists. All my life I have simply done what I liked and it is super. I am working to all sides – drawing, sewing and printing over shirts and napkins, participating in the shows and concerts. So it follows I am multiartist. But I suppose I cannot another way.”
